Dr. Yvonne Sanders-Butler, as principal of award-winning Browns Mill Elementary School in Lithonia, Georgia, created the first “Sugar Free Zone” in the U.S., now known as the Healthy Kids, Smart Kids Program: The Sugar-Free Zone.
Her company, Ennovy Inc., in 2008 introduced the highly acclaimed program that focuses on crafting healthy food choices for youths to more than 20,000 students among 19 schools in Atlanta.
She is sought by academia, public health professionals and foundations like the Morehouse Medical School, Tuskegee University, Jackson State University, Health Human Services (HHS), National Institute of Child Human Development (NICHD), Center for Disease Control (CDC) Institute of Medicine ( IOM), Robert Wood Johnson ( RWJF) to discuss a range of topics regarding children’s health.
Dr. Sanders-Butler served as a member of the 2008-2011 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation National Advisor Committee (NAC) for Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities (HKHC). Johnson & Johnson Diabetes Institute honored Dr. Butler in Brussels, Belgium for being a champion of childhood diabetes and for the creation of the Healthy Kids, Smart Kids Wellness Behavior System.
She has been featured on ABC News, CNN News, Fox News, Tavis Smiley and (PBS) she has appeared on The Martha Stewart Show, 700 Club, TBN, and Lifetime TV, as well as regional and local programming regarding childhood obesity.
She is also the author of “Hea lthy Kids, Smart Kids” and “Naturally Yours and More Gourmet Desserts, Desserts Lovers’ Choice” (a healthy approach to desserts). She firmly believes that “To be healthy, you have to live healthy.”
